Play in Puddles
October half term can paint a picture of rainy days and cranky children. But it needn’t be all doom and gloom.
After conducting research, it seems that the myths about it always raining in Wales simply aren’t true. Obviously, it does rain here, but no more or less than any other part of Britain. In fact, you will find Aberdyfi seems to have a climate of its own - it has even been known for people to get sunburnt in October. So pack the suncream because you could be in luck with a mini heat wave while you stay with us.
And just in case we do live up to the myth - it is Wales, after all - we’ve chosen some of the best things to do on a rainy day while you stay with us.
Bendi-Gedig
For teeny tiny ones, why not take the train to Barmouth where you will find Bendi-Gedig? “Fantastic, brilliant, wonderful” translated from Welsh, a fabulous play centre designed by mummies who know what kids love. A bright, light centre full of fun play equipment from tunnels and slides, to mazes and basketball is sure to tire them out.
Bounce Below
Something for all the family, from little ones to grumpy teens, would definitely be a trip to Bounce Below in Blaenau Ffestiniog. Unleash your inner thrill seeker on the enormous underground net adventure and slide through the disused mine. For the more adventurous (or mad, whatever the case may be), why not have a go on the incredible zip line at Zip World? Soaring above Llechwedd Slate quarry at impressive heights, this is not for the faint-hearted.
Talyllyn Railway
A day out on the Talyllyn Railway is a must while you stay with us. The sights and smells of the steam make for a memorable and nostalgic day. Why not take your four-legged friends who will be spoilt rotten? Little ones love the camaraderie of the amazing staff and volunteers, and even the grumpiest teenager will love using the Talyllyn App whilst trying not to enjoy their day out. Receive 20% off your journey when you stay with us.
Corris Craft Centre and Dyfi Distillery
If you’re feeling like it’s gin o’clock after a few days away with the family, then a trip to Corris Craft Centre and Dyfi Distillery has to be done. Just a few miles from the hotel, you will find a fun afternoon out, with wonderful workshops to keep the children entertained, underground adventures, sailing through magical waterfalls and most importantly - gin. Although, not for the little ones, obviously.
Brave the outside
Alternatively just put on your rain coat, pull on your wellie-bobs and brave the outside. There is nothing more refreshing than a windswept wet walk on the beach - we call it a natural spa. A long, hot bubble bath and delicious hot chocolate will soon warm you up on your return and the drying room will sort your wet things ready for your next adventure.
Cosy up
If you don’t feel like venturing out, wave watch from the windows of our cosy lounges with a good book or board game. To release some energy, have a family tournament of pool or table tennis before a splash around in the swimming pool.
