Things To Do This Half Term

February can bring winter sunshine and frosty bright days, or cold blustery showers where you need to wrap up warm. Whatever the weather, we hope this will give you some ideas to fill your day and create happy half-term memories for all ages.
Swimming pool at the Trefeddian hotel
Here at the hotel, we have many activities that can be enjoyed by all the family. The indoor heated pool is always a winner, and for the less energetic, the warm, relaxing spa bath is a perfect way to unwind. We also have a games room where a challenge or two can be set - be it at the pool table or with a fast game of air hockey. For adults, we have a full size snooker table. There is also the children’s playroom equipped with toys and books for the younger guests to use, or a children’s play park at the back of the hotel. If the weather is wet, spend some time in one of our cosy lounges playing board games, or pick up a book or magazine and have a browse.
For dry weather days - or indeed wet weather days, if you’re feeling brave! - we have pitch and putt on the green in front of the hotel, or a tennis court for a bit of friendly competition. To work up an appetite before dinner, a walk down to the sand dunes and along the beach will blow away the cobwebs.
A short drive away is Ynysmaengwyn, just outside Tywyn. Open all year round, this beautiful woodland setting is perfect for a walk and wander, or for the more adventurous, there is an orienteering course. Wrap up warm and explore the tranquil grounds of the estate (once owned by the Corbett family) where you can see the ruins of the once grand mansion and the family’s coat of arms, The Salt King. There is also the Dovecote that stands in the grounds, a walled garden and a Fairy Glen hidden in the woods.
Set the children a scavenger hunt – how many of these can you spot and tick off the list?

Travel a little further afield and head out to Coed Y Brenin near Dolgellau. This is where Beics Brenin is located, where bikes and helmets for all the family are available to hire. There are lots of cycle tracks to explore, from gentle family routes, through to intermediate and expert for the more experience cyclists. After you’ve finished on the bikes, head over the visitor centre for a drink and snack in the café and let the children explore one of the three play areas, including a wild play space for den building and dam construction. Head off on the animal puzzle trail and look out for wild deer in the forest - a wonderful sight if you are lucky enough to spot one!

Whatever the weather there is always something to do at the Trefeddian.
