Part One - Top Five Things To Do On A Rainy Day

Summer is coming, and whilst we hope the days are blessed with sunshine, we are in Wales and you know what they say about that. So with this in mind, we share the first of our two summer holiday blogs - this one is for those days when it’s not quite so sunny in Aberdovey.

Talyllyn Railway

Hop on the train

A firm favourite with everyone - our local little railway - the Talyllyn is perfect for keeping the whole family happy on a miserable summers’ day. Everyone loves a trip on a steam railway and this one will certainly not disappoint. Little ones will love the friendly staff and volunteers, whilst grumpy teenagers can be kept entertained with the Talyllyn app. Receive 20% off your journey when you stay with us.

Dyfi Wildlife Centre

Discover ospreys

The family friendly Dyfi Wildlife Centre is home to the Dyfi Osprey Project - a fabulous place to visit on a miserable weather day. Hours can be spent watching the ospreys and taking in the panoramic views of the Dyfi Valley from the fabulous 360 observatory. Live high definition nest cams show all the comings and goings from the ospreys’ nests and a specially-built viewing tower is equipped with telescopes and binoculars to spy on all the fabulous wildlife that surrounds the site, including the newly introduced beavers.

Bounce Below

Bounce like a berry

From little ones to teens, something for all the family would be a trip to Bounce Below in Blaenau Ffestiniog. Unleash your inner thrill seeker on the enormous underground net adventure and slide through the disused mine. For the more adventurous (or mad, whatever the case may be), why not have a go on the incredible zip line at Zip World, soaring above Llechwedd Slate quarry at impressive heights? This is not for the faint hearted.

Corris Craft Centre

Get crafty

If it's feeling like gin o’clock after a few days away, then a trip to Corris Craft Centre and Dyfi Distillery has to be done. Just a few miles from the hotel, you will find a fun afternoon out. With wonderful workshops to keep the children entertained, underground adventures sailing through magical waterfalls, and most importantly - gin. Not for the little ones, though - obviously.

Harlech Castle

Conquer a castle

Sure to impress the whole family, the magnificent Harlech Castle offers something for everyone. This mighty coastal fortress stands high above the cliff top, looking out to sea with views of miles around. With towers and high castle walls to investigate, telescopes to spy through and lots of fun summer events, everyone will love exploring this monumental castle.
