What To Do This Summer
Aberystwyth funicular railway
A fabulous way to travel, high above Aberystwyth to the top of Constitution Hill. This is the longest funicular railway in Britain and has been transporting visitors since 1896. At the top, you will find plenty to keep the whole family entertained, including one of the largest camera obscuras in the world, a games room for little ones, a ten pin bowling alley, frisbee golf, a bouncy castle and stunning walks along the coastal path.
Take the train and ferry
For a walk with a difference, take the mainline train along the beautiful Cambrian coast to Fairbourne, then board the tiny Fairbourne Railway. On reaching the mouth of the Mawddach Estuary, take the ferry and travel beside the spectacular viaduct to Barmouth harbour. After an afternoon exploring what the old town of Barmouth has to offer, return to the hotel by walking over the 125 year old bridge to Mawddach train station.
Coed y Brenin
Near Dolgellau, this fabulous forest is an action-packed day out for the whole family. Complete with mountain bike trails suitable for all ages, an animal puzzle trail for littles ones, three play areas, geocaching, orienteering trails and pushchair-friendly paths, there really is something for everyone. The exciting play areas include a wild play space for den building and dam construction, a playhouse, double-width slide, rotating dish, dual swings and rocking animals, plus a timber climbing wall, rock stepping stones and accessible play area.
Swallow Falls
On the edge of the quaint little Welsh town of Betws-y-Coed, you will find these spectacular waterfalls. Well worth the drive for the beautiful scenery, fabulous shops and lovely restaurants, this is a fabulous day out from the Trefeddian. Swallow Falls is the highest continuous waterfall in Wales, flowing through a narrow chasm of limestone in the majestic Gwydir Forest. Wonderful woodland trails will take you along the River Llugwy past an ancient miner’s bridge and smaller waterfalls before you reach the charming Swallow Falls.
Ynysmaengwyn
A walk through the enchanted woods at Ynysmaengwyn is fun for all the family. Pronounced “inisminegwin”, this estate was once owned by the noble Corbet family. Seek out the unique dovecote standing in the grounds alongside an enchanted fairy garden, bug hotel and the stunning hidden walled garden. If you're lucky, you will hear woodpeckers, see an abundance of wildlife and the friendly robins who have been known to sit on visitors’ hands. There is also a small play area if your little ones still have some beans after their walk
